"Respected Comrade" Edition
Full disclosure—I spent 18 hours traveling yesterday only to be locked out of my final destination. Also I just used my first bidet-less toilet in 3 months. I am NOT in a good mood!
But alas, the show must go on. Points are continuing to dominate the timeline and we had a token launch that didn’t immediately go to zero. Life is good! Just don’t look at the price.
Points Blowback?
As we move into the second week of points szn (yes it’s only the second week!) we’ve started to see some pushback against the system. This whole thing was started as a joke by Nobs barely 14 days ago, so naturally as it evolves there will be growing pains.
When Nobs realized this was growing too fast for him to be the sole point-distributer he added some friends to the list. People now take issue with the fact that he chose people he knows to carry out his own project’s vision.
Personally, next time I start a new project I will make sure to only involve people I don’t know and don’t trust. Sounds like a winning plan!
For the record, I think the only group chat I’m in with Nobs and Excel is the Ket chat so I’m not sure where this narrative even comes from.
All points distributors are trying their best and sifting through tons of absolute garbage in the mentions. New accounts have popped up spamming daily for points, and it’s a challenge to go through everything. Sorry to everyone who feels like the system isn’t working for them, but thankfully there are new wrinkles being added that will decentralize the system further (more on that later).
Feel free to start your own points program on Arena! Literally anyone can do it! You can just build things! Look at TR, he already made TR points and they’re a roaring success. There is no cabal dictatorship conspiracy, it’s just a bunch of friends trying to bring some fun to the chain. Enjoy it or don’t.
Polypup Builds Things
I’ll be honest, I missed the launch of this as we were running our first Twitter Space, but it’s nice to see new things happening on chain! The “strategy” meta is (was?) popular elsewhere, and Polypup has brought it over here for us to enjoy.
The first strategy involves a token with a fee that goes towards LPing BLACK/USDC and using rewards to buyback and burn the token. I have a strong anti-LP stance (they’re a scam!) but the boosted rewards for $BLACK are pretty insane so maybe it can work.
Either way, it’s nice to have things to do. He’s apparently releasing a Salvor strategy that will buy and list Salvor NFTs. That’s cool and all, but how about the Salvor team focuses on releasing the Blaze platform! Some of us have made bets on the launch window and are running out of time!
Pointsmarket Goes Decentralized
I know, it’s a lot of words. Let’s break it down!
Every point you have gives you the ability to vote for someone you like. When other people vote for you, you gain REP.
When you have enough REP, you can “vouch” for someone else. Vouching for someone means that you will gain some small REP boosts when this person receives votes.
So the flywheel is get REP → vouch for people you like → get more REP when they do well → vouch for more people.
The great thing about this system is that it allows the points dictatorship whiners from the above section (Wojak, Innkeeper and Collin) to get involved without needing to “grovel for points.”
Are you a really popular person with great posts that’s not receiving any points because the distributors have a vendetta against you? You can now receive lots of votes and gather tons of decentralized REP from your adoring fans! Really stick it to the man!
I could see REP mattering more than points as it’s a better measurement of how the community feels about a person. But probably none of it will matter at all! Just have fun!
